online.
- What if there is a problem with my card?
All cards come with a 24-hour customer service phone number. In
addition, the vendor provides a contact support email address.
- What should I know about a card before buying a
card?
1. The name of the card, min/card, denomination($5, $10, etc.) What is
the rate for calling my country or for calling within the US.
2. Can I use it from my state. (with a few exceptions you can use your
card from most states)
3. What fees are there if any including: connection fees, maintenance
fees, monthly/weekly fees, taxes, rounding, payphone surcharge, etc.4.
The expiration date. usually 3 months.
Note: Base your decision on how you will use your card.
e.g. you want to keep your card long term or use it up in one long call
or you will be making lots of calls
Other factors you might consider:
1. Are the rates the same 24 hours a day?
2. Is there a higher rate for the first minute than
subsequent minutes?
3. Will I be charged for calls that are not completed?
4. Can I place more than one call without redialing the
PIN?
5. Will I be notified when one minute is remaining?
6. Can I reach a customer service operator 24 hours a day?
- How will I know if I’ve used up the value of the
prepaid calling card?
When you enter your pin or dial your destination number a message will
indicate how many units or minutes are left on your card. Sometimes a
warning tone will sound during your phone call when you have one minute
remaining.
- Are there any extra charges when I use my phone
card from payphones, hotels, or other privately owned phone networks?
Yes. There is a federally mandated FCC surcharge for using your card from
payphones. Such fees may be up to 50+ cents. As required by the FCC, it
will be automatically deducted from your card. (many states require phone
owners to post the amount of this charge on their phones). Hotels also
usually have a service charge added to your hotel bill when you use their
phones.
- Why are the rates different when calling a cell
phone?
In most international countries, a surcharge is applied when calling to
cellular phones. This additional charge results in rate increases.
- Is my online transaction secure?
Yes. All vendors use secure online transactions. This ensures that
your credit card information is kept confidential and your order remains
secure.
- I want to keep my card longer but not have to pay
weekly fees?
So you want to keep your calling card longer without loosing
minutes in the form of weekly/maintenance fees? For your
situation, you need to buy a card not with the cheapest rate/minute but
one that doesn't have any maintenance,
weekly, or other fees. You will pay a higher rate/min but in the long run
you still save because minutes (in the form of fees) aren't being taken
away from your card while you sleep. Do remember that most cards expire in
90 days.
- How can I find rates from Belize to the USA?
Note: When available
The best place to search for cards from the US
to Belize is the from the SpeedyPin search box. Just Enter Belize in the
from section and USA-Continental in the To (Destination) section. Be sure
to get your access numbers and and country codes for Belize to the USA.
View the results for BZE to the USA here.
In Belize you can buy a BTL phonecard (available at major grocery stores)
and using a payphone to call back to the US. BTL is the Belize local
Telecom provider.
- What is rounding?
Some calling cards round to the nearest second,
minute, others 3 minutes etc. Rounding means they measure your talk time in
increments. For example if a card is advertising 3 min rounding and you talk
for 1 minute the telecom company will round up to 3 minutes and charge your
card for 3 minutes of talk time. If you talk for 5 minutes the company will
round up to 6 minutes and take away 6 minutes from your card, if you talk
for 20 min the Telecom company will take away 21 minutes from your card
and if you talk for 12 minutes they wont take away any additional minutes
because 12 minutes is an exact increment of 3. The lower the rounded minutes
or seconds the better the value of the pre-paid calling card.
